چکیده
Strychnos usambarensis Gilg (Loganiaceae) is one of thé three most widely distributed African species of Strychnos L. In East and South Africa thé plant grows as a small tree 3-15 m in height. In several other localities in East Africa, as well as in Zaïre, Congo, and West Africa, it is found as a climber up to 70 m long (1). The only other morphological différence between thé two forms is thé présence of tendrils in thé climbers.

Leucoridines A-D, cytotoxic Strychnos-Strychnos bisindole alkaloids from Leuconotis.
Four new bisindole alkaloids of the Strychnos-Strychnos type, leucoridines A-D (1-4), were isolated from the stem-bark extract of Leuconotis griffithii. Alkaloids 1-4 showed moderate cytotoxicity against drug-sensitive and vincristine-resistant human KB cells.

In considération of thé many biological properties of alkaloids, and particularly of quinine (which remains an important antimalarial drug), it was not surprising that a séries of indolomonoterpenic alkaloids, mainly isolated from Strychnos usambarensis Gilg and from Strychnos icaja Baill., thé latter used in traditional medicine from Central Africa to treat chronic malaria, présent antiplasmod...

Three alkaloids of the stem bark of Strychnos dolichothyrsa Gilg ex Onochie et Hepper (Loganiaceae) were isolated and identified as caracurine V and its mono- and di-N-oxide by comparison with synthesized compounds. 13C-NMR was used to confirm the structure of the N-oxides. The muscle relaxant activity and the toxicity of the N-oxides were less than those of caracurine V.

متن کاملIsostrychnopentamine, an indolomonoterpenic alkaloid from Strychnos usambarensis, induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human colon cancer cells.
Isostrychnopentamine (ISP) is an indolomonoterpenic alkaloid that is present in the leaves of Strychnos usambarensis, a well known African shrub or little tree. The roots contain quaternary alkaloids, which are used to make a curare-like arrow poison. However, tertiary alkaloids isolated from the same plant possess cytotoxic activities against mammalian cells and protozoa. The effect of ISP has...
